Eziway's top five cars of the year for safety!

After an up and down year of lockdowns and being let out, the roads around the country have gone from empty to full and now leading into the new year the freeways will be chockers with families heading away. So, we thought why not pick our top five cars of the year for safety!

Current technology in cars around the world has minimized the risk of accidents tenfold, here are the cars that particularly caught our eye.

Mitsubishi Outlander

The Mitsubishi hits the market with a perfect 5-star ANCAP safety rating, putting the mind at ease. With a larger presence on the road, it is not just the fact that it comes packed with features that help keep you safe. The size of the vehicle keeps the car feeling steady and grounded and you don’t feel dwarfed by larger Utes or trucks which is great for peace of mind and confidence on the road.

Some of the key features include:

  • Emergency lane assist

  • Lane departure prevention

  • Adaptive cruise control

  • Predictive forward collision warning

Renault entered the compact SUV market with their all-new Arkana this year which much like the rest of the cars in this list comes standard with a 5-star ANCAP safety rating. The Arkana is a tech-savvy medium-sized vehicle with all the new features you could ask for in an affordable and sleek new SUV.

Some of the key features include:

Mazda 3

A fan favourite around the country, the Mazda 3 received an evolution of its own in 2021 with its sleek modern design, measuring up to the many other European hot hatches and holding its own in the looks department. In addition to the manufacturer removing the stigma around the Mazda 3; they copped an overhaul in tech and safety features. Commonly in the smaller hatches, it is easy to feel a little compromised on the road, but Mazda ensured the driver would feel comfortable and have their safety at the forefront.

Some of the key features include:

  • Smart brake support

  • Blind-spot monitoring

  • Radar cruise control with stop and go

  • 360-degree view monitor

The Ranger, along with most of the other dual cabs have bridged the safety gap that used to exist between regular vehicles and their workhorse counterparts.

Some of the key features include:

  • Active park assist

  • Driver impairment monitor

  • Dynamic stability control

Electrifying the market, the IONIQ has been one of the hottest electric vehicles to get your hands on around the country, winning car of the year. Akin to the rest of this list, the new EV boasts a 5-star ANCAP rating, unbelievable tech and its very own style that separates it from the market. Hyundai’s “SmartSense” is seamlessly integrated into all facets of the vehicle, aiding the driver in every scenario presented.

Some of the key features include:

  • 360 view cameras attached to side mirrors

  • Forward collision assist

  • Blindspot view monitor

  • Parking collision avoidance

  • Rear cross-traffic collision avoidance

In summary, 2021 was a fantastic year for you and me, the driver. So much innovation in the look and feel of vehicles, electric cars becoming increasingly prevalent and most importantly, top tier safety features across all the car make models and types. It’s genuinely exciting to think about what may be in the works for 2022 and beyond for automotive innovation.
