Having selected the Sportage S from Kia’s stable, you’d be forgiven for assuming it might be a little bit light on in the “goodies” department as the “entry level” option in the Sportage range.
Kia Sportage S - Reviewed

However, with its grin-like grille and headlights, the Sportage S doesn’t leave you with FOMO and lets you enjoy a healthy number of safety features and creature comforts that it’s higher spec cousins have.

The numbers that matter

The S, SX & SX+ all share the same 114kW, 2 litre petrol engine. Stepping up to the GT-Line will give you 135kW from a 2.4 litre petrol engine which also sees an increase in Torque from 192Nm to 237Nm.

Kia also offer their proven 2 litre diesel across the whole range, delivering 400Nm of Torque and superior fuel economy with a claimed figure of 5.4L/100km (combined driving). This compares to 6.3L/100km in the auto 2 litre and 6.7L/100km from the 2.4 litre in the GT-Line, which needs to drive all four wheels.

The numbers that aren’t all numbers

Regardless of the Sportage you select, you’ll get; seats for 5 people, 2 zones of climate control, a 62 litre fuel tank, an unbraked towing capacity of 750kg, 3 Child Restraint Points, 4 cup holders, 4 bottle holders in the front and rear doors, 3 coat hooks, 2nd row vents and 3 x 12 volt power outlets.

As a music lover, there are 6 speakers in the S and 8 speakers in the rest of the range, part of a premium JBL sound system (which also gets the upgrade from a 7” to 8” colour LCD screen). Rest assured though, all variants do feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with voice recognition and easy steering wheel controls.

The numbers to love

All vehicles across the Kia range come with a 7 year AND unlimited kilometre warranty! This means they novate extremely well, and a Sportage like the one we reviewed could be parked in your driveway from as little as $370 per fortnight*. Interested? View the range and make an enquiry here.

We’d like to thank the team at Kia for loaning us a few cars from their impressive lineup. You can read our reviews on the Stinger, Carnival and Cerato GT now.
