We took the brand-new Toyota Kluger Grande Hybrid out just after it’s much anticipated launch and we loved it.
First hitting the roads of Australia in 2003, the Toyota Kluger has been a fixture in the driveways of many families. Over the years it has served its duties as the ‘Family Truckster’ and in 2021 it hits the roads with a Hybrid option.
We took the brand-new Toyota Kluger Grande Hybrid out just after it’s much anticipated launch and we loved it.
Currently there are not too many new cars that are ready for delivery, let alone with Hybrid variants, but you can pull into almost any Toyota Dealership and smell, touch, feel, even drive away in your own Toyota Kluger with an Eziway Novated Lease.
Putting aside the addition of a Hybrid powerplant as an option, the 2021 Kluger features a plethora of safety and tech across the range on its longer wheelbase. These extra goodies have come with a slight increase in the price, but in our view the extra $$$ goes a long way.
As tested, our Kluger Grande AWD Hybrid had us smiling from the start. Whisper quiet in electric mode, we got to enjoy the sounds of the premium, 11 speaker, JBL sound system, along with the sights of a big, well-integrated, infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, all while sitting on powered, heated, and ventilated synthetic leather seats, bathing in the sunshine from a panoramic sunroof.
Behind the wheel, the Panoramic View Monitor made parking a breeze and sticking to posted speed limits was made even easier with a heads-up display, complementing the road sign recognition technology. Check out all the features across the entire range here.
It wasn’t hard to keep our review topical and get excited about the benefits of Hybrid motoring, in the week that saw Petrol prices jump by over 40c per litre in some cities. Keep your wallet in your pocket for a little longer as the Hybrid Kluger will sip on 5.6l/100km (combined cycle) with a 2.5 litre ‘4-potter’ and three electric motors matched to a four mode eCVT (Eco, Normal, Trail & Sport modes) delivering a combined output of 184kW.
For those that want to stick to internal combustion to get from A to B, and save a few pennies on the purchase price, the 3.5 litre V6 delivers 218kW/350Nm while chugging on 8.7l/100km 2WD or 8.8l/100km AWD (combined cycle).
All in all, we were glad we got behind the wheel of the all new Kluger so soon after its launch. So, if you are looking at getting into a larger SUV, you will be glad you waited that little bit longer for the release of this one.
